What does a day in the life of a successful IT professional look like? Pedro shares his secrets to the Executive Outlook.

When asked about his typical day at work, Pedro emphasized the importance of customer interaction and conducting workshops to understand their pain points and requirements. He believes that effective collaboration with customers and the team is key to creating a roadmap and vision for projects. Pedro also enjoys spending time crunching numbers and analyzing data to fill gaps and close facts as much as possible.

Developing a technology solution that meets diverse needs – Pedro reveals the challenges!

As for the challenges they face in developing a technology solution, Pedro mentioned the need to balance customization and standardization, collect and analyze data from all offices, and ensure user-friendliness for all staff regardless of their technical abilities. They strive to create a flexible solution that can adapt to the unique needs of each country while maintaining consistency across all offices. By understanding the pain points of customers and improving the effectiveness of their projects, Pedro believes that the business can continue to thrive.

Pedro shared that his team of around 30 people is almost entirely remote, and they rely heavily on digital tools to organize themselves and align their priorities. They use various tools to keep track of everyone’s work and productivity, maintain strategic plans and projects, and help people be productive without overloading them with too many meetings, interruptions, or distractions. They’ve been able to adapt to the changes brought on by the COVID outbreak, and they strive to find the right balance between standardization and customization while accommodating local ways of working.

One of the most significant challenges they face daily is dealing with the differences in ways of doing things across the many countries they operate in. They aim to find a way to standardize their systems and processes while also accommodating the local ways of working. Pedro emphasized that the second challenge is helping people from different places work together effectively and be proud of their work. These challenges are not unique to their business, and many people face similar challenges in their own organizations.

Experience is key – Pedro shares the most important asset in the technology industry!

When asked about his journey and how he came to lead the digital technology department, Pedro shared that his background is primarily in product management. He started by studying economics and then joined the job market, where he discovered his passion for problem-solving and building things that solve problems. He enjoyed defining what things should do more than executing the tasks themselves, which led him to develop skills in planning and helping people execute tasks. He worked in different roles, some more technical and some less technical, but he believes that experience is the main factor in developing skills in the technology sector.

Pedro stressed that gaining experience through side projects, volunteering, and joining initiatives is crucial, regardless of whether you prefer to be more or less technical. While academic or training skills are essential, experience is the most valuable asset in the technology sector. He also highlighted the importance of understanding the problem from the end user’s perspective, and the discovery phase is critical to this process. Framing the problem well is halfway to solving it, and technical skills alone won’t solve the end user’s problem.
In closing, Pedro expressed his excitement for the constant innovation and evolution in the technology industry, the ability to work with a diverse group of people with different backgrounds and expertise, and the satisfaction of seeing a product or solution that his team has developed being used and making a positive impact for their customers. Pedro‘s story is a testament to the importance of problem-solving, experience, strategies and collaboration in the in the technology industry.
