Chasey is a published and experienced leader in analytics with knowledge of everything from epidemiology to the development of algorithms and statistical models for AI and ML. As the Director of Healthcare Analytics at Zimmet Healthcare Consultants, Dr. Sanchez’s work combines a deep technical understanding with passion and purpose. Her diverse professional path makes her a model in the healthcare industry’s use of artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning, and data-driven solutions as she leads initiatives to improve healthcare decision-making using data.

How the Right Decisions Can Decide Your Journey?

She had an odd yet significant journey into data science and healthcare analytics. Her career took a surprise turn when she decided to study computer programming as way of financing her studies after first being attracted to epidemiology. Working in a variety of fields, such as health data analysis and early childhood intervention, Dr. Sanchez created a unique combination of abilities that matched her affection for public health with her ability for analytics.
Her early programming experience, which included COBOL and the Y2K conversion, prepared the way for her fundamental knowledge of data structures, which she would subsequently apply to healthcare analytics. Her work ultimately shifted from insurance data systems to creating predictive tools that promote healthcare innovation, with a specific focus on identifying andaddressing bias in AI and ML models.
Dr. Sanchez’s focus on improving healthcare outcomes and managing the challenging ethicalissues of data science is one of the most significant features of her work. Her work covers a wide range of subjects, including identifying and addressing bias within statistical models and algorithms used for prioritization of clients and patients in healthcare and other sectors. She is currently writing a textbook for use in graduate curricula on how to ethically use AI and machine learning models to better healthcare delivery, and highlights thecareful maintenance of balance between innovation and ethics. She believes that even if there may never be a perfect data model, systems can improve over time as more knowledgeable, ethically sound models are developed.

The Perfect Way to Start Your Morning

Every morning Chasey gets up early, gets out and exercises as a way of centering herself for the challenges of the day ahead (both the expected and unexpected), Her work requires continuous monitoring, assessment, and teaming with developers who refine the predictive models and explore new opportunities. Dr. Sanchez finds it exciting to experience the discovery process, where results often challenge scientists’ ideas, which they take for granted. She says that this process of discovery drives her forward. With all this discovery new questions come forward, and new alternatives are found.

A major and persuasive feature to Dr. Sanchez’s approach to health analytics is her conviction in the significance of data and strategic alignment on its proposed usage within organizations. According to her, the data strategy isn’t something that can be accomplished in a single moment but is a continual, ongoing procedure that adapts to changing trends in within any given sector and the wider world. She stresses the importance of companies to continuously examine their data models to ensure that they are responding to the appropriate questions and addressing the demands of all stakeholders. The flexibility of the strategy is crucial to ensure that the organizations are relevant and effective in dealing with the changing challenges of the respective sectors, especially within the context of regulatory changes and new technologies.

How Problem-Solving Helped in the Fight Against COVID-19?

Dr. Sanchez’s experience working on high impact use cases further clarifies her ability to solve complex problems using data. One notable example of her work was in the automated detection of COVID-19 clusters for the State Department of Health in Rhode Island. The task was to define and refine the concept of a “cluster” in various settings, including skilled nursing facilities, correctional institutions, and community environments, to ensure that the state could respond swiftly and accurately to emerging outbreaks. Through meticulous research and the development of complex algorithms, Dr. Sanchez’s and the team’s work helped shape the response to the pandemic, demonstrating how data can be leveraged to save lives and optimize healthcare interventions.
In addition to combining her epidemiological background and technical expertise for innovation during the COVID-19 emergency, Dr. Sanchez has also contributed significantly to the field of Early Childhood Intervention for medically fragile infants and toddlers in Texas. She was appointed by the Governor of Texas to serve on his advisory committee and elected by her peers as Chair, having recently been re-elected to Chair for another term. Her expertise in data modeling, federal and state contracts, and a passion to help others keeps her in demand across multiple sectors.Chasey’s capability to effectively use data to inform concrete policy recommendations highlights the vital role data science plays in shaping the future of healthcare, intervention strategies, and resource allocation.

Want a Brighter Future? Keep Your Vision Clear

When she considers the future, Dr. Sanchez’s vision is clear. She is driven to work for the improvement of models used in AI and ethical utilization of data to improve outcomes. Her work shows a thorough understanding of the way that data science can be utilized to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of healthcare systems, but also to strengthen the ethical guidelines surrounding the use of patient data. If it’s reworking algorithms for predictive modeling or developing a framework for ethical deployment of AI and machine learning, Dr. Sanchez’s research continues to have an impact on the healthcare industry.
In the end I would like to say that Chasey’s professional career is an example of the effectiveness of combining different skills and perspectives to address some of the biggest problems in healthcare.
