In this edition of “The Executive Outlook,” we are pleased to present an exclusive interview with Majeed Ghadialy, the visionary leader behind Textellent, who shares his fascinating journey from supporting his wife’s tax business to leading a successful enterprise specializing in digital platforms and mobile solutions.
How does the typical day look like for Majeed?
Majeed begins his day with strategic meetings with overseas teams in India and beyond, aligning efforts across time zones. As the day unfolds, he engages with US teams, clients, partners, and key departments to maintain strong momentum. As the CEO of Textellent, his primary responsibility is ensuring that all departments within the organization are aligned and moving in the right direction. “At this stage of our journey, in our 10th year, it’s all about making sure the pieces fit together,” Majeed explains. “Clarity is key, and I find myself repeating it often to ensure everyone understands the vision and their roles.” His day is packed with meetings, including discussions with overseas teams in India, clients, internal departments, and partners. The meetings are not just about coordinating tasks; they are about reinforcing the company’s strategy and keeping everyone on the same page.
Reflecting on his entrepreneurial journey, Majeed recounts how it all began. In 2006, he and his wife became franchisees of a nationwide tax and accounting firm, where Majeed played the role of marketing and tech support. “We had tried many marketing methods, from social media to phone calls and email marketing. Then, in 2010, my wife had an idea to leverage the growing popularity of mobile phones. We realized that people were constantly on their phones, so we thought, ‘Why not use that as a channel to reach them?'”
With that insight, Majeed started it out to build the company by hiring a mobile developer and experimenting with mobile messaging. The results were immediate and impressive. “People responded well to text messages—many repeat customers even told us that they came because of the message they received,” Majeed recalls.
This success led to the realization that there was potential for a new business. He soon hired a team of engineers and designers to build an enterprise-class platform, which he tested with others in the industry. The results were equally successful, and within nine years, Textellent was serving thousands of users across the U.S. and Canada.
What excites Majeed most about his work?
Majeed’s enthusiasm is palpable. “The process of creation has always been exciting to me,” he says. “Understanding the problem, envisioning a solution, and then working with the team to bring it to life is what drives me. But as the company has grown, I’ve found that people’s development has become just as exciting.” He explains that mentoring and guiding team members, helping them realize their potential, and seeing them excel in their careers has become deeply satisfying. “It’s about understanding what excites people, even if they don’t see how it relates to their current job and, helping them mold those passions into career skills.”
Majeed goes on to emphasize the importance of fostering a work environment where people can thrive. “It’s deeply satisfying to see someone grow from a customer support role to handling complex tasks in professional services. Seeing that transformation is a huge motivator for me.”
Turning to the critical topic of data strategy, Majeed stresses their integral role in any organization’s growth and success. “Strategy is absolutely essential,” he says. “Without strategy, tactics are just noise. You need a clear vision of where you’re going and a way to measure your progress.” He likens data to the tactics that inform and shape strategy. “Data helps you look in the mirror, keeping you honest. It reveals insights that can challenge your perceptions and help adjust the course.”
However, Majeed believes that data should align with the company’s strategic goals. “When gathering data, focus on a few key metrics that truly matter to the company’s strategy. This is crucial for making informed decisions.” He acknowledges that data collection and analysis can be complex, especially when it involves extracting data from systems and presenting it in a usable format. But he also emphasizes that executives must invest in this process continuously. “Building a data-driven company takes time, and we’re constantly working at Textellent to improve our own data processes.”
As an advocate for technology, Majeed sees the increasing importance of digital platforms in business. He believes that people, processes, and tools—referred to as the ‘PPT’ formula—are the pillars of success for any organization. “People and processes come first, and tools, including digital platforms, should support them,” he explains. Majeed recognizes that in today’s fast-paced digital world, businesses must embrace new technologies or risk falling behind.
The rise of AI, in particular, has caught his attention. “AI is transforming everything. We’re experimenting with it and learning from our mistakes,” he shares. He notes that AI offers tremendous potential but comes with ethical challenges. “While the possibilities are exciting, we must ensure that AI is used responsibly.”
For Majeed, embracing technology is about more than just adopting the latest trends. “It’s about understanding how technology can support our processes and people to achieve our company’s strategy. We’ve seen how communication, teamwork, and data extraction have all become easier thanks to technology platforms.” Reflecting on the evolution of communication, Majeed remembers a time when international phone calls were expensive and unreliable. “Now, with video calls and instant messaging, distance is no longer a barrier. It’s incredible how technology has brought the world closer.”
What is the importance of digital platforms in enhancing measurement and accountability?
As the conversation draws to a close, Majeed shares a philosophy that guides both his personal and professional life. “In my faith, learning is a lifelong journey. The idea of learning from the cradle to the grave is something I hold dear. We can never stop learning, and that mindset has been critical to our success at Textellent.” He also acknowledges the challenges that come with change and innovation, urging others to keep experimenting and failing forward. “Fail early, fail often, but keep trying. That’s how you learn and grow.”
Majeed’s journey spans tech, product management, and entrepreneurship. From IBM and i2 Technologies to leading product strategy at MyBuys, he mastered innovation. As a Liberty Tax franchise owner, he honed business expertise before founding Textellent, an award-winning text messaging and scheduling platform helping SMBs and franchises grow, retain, and serve customers better.
His story offers invaluable insights into the importance of strategy, data, and people development in driving business success. As Textellent continues to evolve, Majeed’s commitment to embracing change and fostering growth in both his company and its employees ensures that the future is full of exciting possibilities.
