Shaping Digital Transformation: Insights from Jose Carlos Rodriguez Hernandez

Jose Carlos Rodríguez Hernández

In this special edition of In this edition of The Executive Outlook, we sat down with Jose Carlos Rodríguez Hernández, Co founder of ISP Consulting, to hear his remarkable journey from informatics engineering student to respected leader in IT and business strategy. With 18 years of experience, Jose has played a pivotal role in helping organizations in Peru embrace digital transformation, data analytics, cloud adoption, and AI-driven project management. His story is one of resilience, adaptability, and the belief that technology is not just a tool but a partner in business growth.

Jose began by reflecting on his early years. “I decided to study informatic engineering, and that opportunity gave me the knowledge and tools to build solutions in different projects during my professional experience” he recalled. His passion for solving problems through technology was clear from the start, but something shifted as his career progressed. “Over time, I realized the real impact comes when you align technology with people, strategy, and clients expectations and needs.” This realization nudged him away from a purely technical path and into leadership, where he could guide teams, shape vision, and ensure technology initiatives contributed directly to business outcomes. That balance of technology expertise and business strategy became his calling card. In 2015, Jose co-founded ISP Consulting, a company that has now spent ten years designing and delivering solutions about software development, data and analytics, and process automation. About data and analytics service, what sets ISP apart is its commitment: ensuring data is not only collected but also transformed into something clear, reliable, and valuable from day one.

“We often meet organizations where data is scattered—Excel sheets here, a FoxPro database there, or outdated systems nobody has touched for years,” Jose explained. “The challenge isn’t just to migrate this information but to make it clean, usable, and trustworthy. That’s when data becomes an asset instead of a burden.” Over the last decade, Jose has observed that one of the most significant changes in Peru and beyond is the migration to cloud platforms. “Years ago, most companies stored everything on-premises,” he said. “Now, almost all our clients are moving to the cloud. In Peru, we see a strong preference for Azure, partly because Microsoft is one of our partners, but we also help clients work with AWS and Oracle depending on their needs.” For ISP Consulting, this means building modern architectures with databases like PostgreSQL, SQL Server, and MySQL, tailored to client requirements but always designed to scale as their businesses grow.
Yet Jose sees the cloud as only one step in the evolution of digital transformation. The next frontier is AI in consulting and project management. “AI is transforming project management from reactive to predictive,” he explained enthusiastically. “Instead of simply reporting delays or risks after they occur, AI tools can now forecast problems, suggest ways to optimize resources, and even recommend process improvements in real time.” At ISP, his team has already begun exploring AI-powered solutions that give clients a real-time view of project health. These dashboards help leaders make faster, smarter decisions and reduce the guesswork that has historically slowed projects down. His advice for organizations beginning their AI journey is simple yet powerful: “Start by exploring your processes. Understand what tasks could benefit from automation. Then iterate. Improvement never ends—it’s a cycle of version one, then version two, and on it goes.”
But as any leader knows, technology alone doesn’t guarantee success. Managing expectations versus reality is often the hardest part of consulting. Jose has seen countless examples where clients hope for a six-month delivery, only to discover that complexity requires more time. The solution, in his view, lies in transparency and methodology. “We use agile approaches,” he explained. “After two months, we deliver the first version; after four months, a more evolved product; and by six months, the final solution. Communication is constant—both with clients and within our teams. That trust is what keeps projects on track.” Jose’s insights also extend to leadership itself. When asked what advice he would give to young professionals who want to transition from technical roles into strategic leadership, his response was thoughtful. “Stay curious,” he said. “Technology evolves every day. Don’t just learn the tools—learn resilience, empathy, adaptability. Leadership is about people as much as it is about systems. If you can combine technical expertise with emotional intelligence, you will be ready for leadership.”

Looking to the next five years, Jose believes the consulting landscape will be shaped by a set of transformative technologies. Artificial intelligence and machine learning will dominate predictive analytics and decision support. Edge computing will allow real-time processing at the source of data. Low-code and no-code platforms will democratize development, empowering more people to create solutions. And as the foundation of it all will be cybersecurity. “Without strong security,” he emphasized, “no digital transformation is sustainable. It’s not just an add-on—it’s essential.” His reflections highlight not only his expertise but also his philosophy of leadership. For Jose, sustainability in consulting is measured not by how long a consultant stays, but by what remains when they leave. He believes in empowering internal teams, ensuring that practices continue long after his role has ended. “Technology by itself is not the goal,” he concluded. “It’s about helping people and organizations grow, adapt, and succeed.”
The conversation with Jose Carlos Rodríguez Hernández is a reminder of what leadership in technology truly means. It is not about chasing the latest buzzword or implementing systems for the sake of novelty. It is about aligning technology with strategy, guiding people through change, and building trust that lasts. From his beginnings as an engineering student to shaping digital transformation across Peru, Jose’s story reflects resilience, adaptability, and vision—the very qualities that will define the future of IT consulting. For executives and business leaders, his message is clear: digital transformation is not a one-time project. It is an ongoing journey, powered by curiosity, strengthened by trust, and sustained by the willingness to adapt. Companies that treat their data as an asset, embrace cloud and AI responsibly, and build strong internal capabilities will not only survive but thrive in the years ahead. As our discussion closed, Jose left us with a thought that captures both his career and his philosophy: “Technology is important, but it is only part of the story. What truly matters is the impact it creates for people and organizations. That’s where the real transformation happens.”
